2112

A cover originally by the band Rush. This was chosen and paid for by KickStarter donation fan David Ham, for the ‘Absolute Treasure’ DVD/Bluray campaign in 2013. This track is not and probably will not be ever be made commercially available for widespread release by the band as part of the stipulations of the band’s KickStarter.

The song is originally featured on the 1976 album ‘2112’. The original track runs at a length of 20 minutes and 34 seconds. This cover version is adapted from the single version of the track which merges the first ‘part’ of the song. ‘Overture’ & ‘Temples Of Syrinx’ as one track. This single edit can also be found on Rush’s ‘The Spirit Of Radio: Greatest Hits’ album (2003).

Lyrics

[I. OVERTURE]

…And the meek shall inherit the Earth…

[II. TEMPLES OF SYRINX]

We’ve taken care of everything
The words you read, the songs you sing
The pictures that give pleasure to your eyes
It’s one for all and all for one
We work together, common sons
Never need to wonder how or why

We are the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx
Our great computers fill the hallowed halls
We are the Priests, of the Temples of Syrinx
All the gifts of life are held within our walls

Look around at this world we’ve made
Equality our stock in trade
Come and join the Brotherhood of Man
Oh, what a nice, contented world
Let the banners be unfurled
Hold the Red Star proudly high in hand

We are the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx
Our great computers fill the hallowed halls
We are the Priests, of the Temples of Syrinx
All the gifts of life are held within our walls

Trivia
John Nash incorporates the riff from ‘Danger! High Voltage’ during the intro. Fun fact: John Nash also incorporates the Rush riff from ‘Spirit Of Radio’ into Dance Epidemic when playing it live.
The main guitar solo is replaced with a synth flute solo.
Dick Valentine pronounces ‘Earth’ is ‘Oife’ as a humourous reference to the fact Rush frontman Geddy Lee is Jewish.
Drummer Percussion World is a die-hard Rush fan and has cited Rush drummer Neal Peart as one of his favourite drummers of all time.
Rush front-man Geddy Lee is infamous for his high-pitched singing voice, in their cover Dick Valentine takes full advantage of this fact.
